Standards

On this page I have set out the standards you can expect from my programme, whether you choose the standard or advanced programme.

You will receive:

  • A thorough pre-course analysis of your team's needs and pre-course briefing
  • A programme designed around your team's needs
  • Opportunity for every individual to have a worthwhile experience to meet their learning objectives and personal goals
  • Good quality accommodation and meals
  • Qualified supervision in all activities
  • Respect for participants from the consultant, no prescriptive attitudes and no attempts to pressurise participants into unwelcome activities. No emphasis on machismo
  • No attempts to play 'therapist' to participants
  • No exercises based on 'suspended disbelief' or role play irrelevant to organisational needs
  • Enormous emphasis on safety, both physical and emotional
  • A consultant well-skilled in group work and facilitation
  • Well-maintained equipment
  • All activities covered by appropriate professional indemnity insurance

Safety Policy
I place great emphasis on participants working together to ensure safety, and thus safety considerations are built into all our work together. In the normal course of events responsibility for safety is shared, and this is part of the process of enhancing team functioning. However, your team will be monitored throughout the programme and if necessary, say in unusual or unanticipated circumstances, I will assume overriding responsibility for the safety of the group as a whole. Of course this will take precedence over the group programme until the group is safe. The mountains can be inhospitable and, in keeping with good practice, route cards are prepared and routinely lodged at our base, the Wasdale Head Inn, before each excursion to ensure the emergency services have knowledge of our whereabouts if necessary. A fully-equipped first aid kit is carried on each activity, in addition to additional provisions and an emergency group shelter to accommodate all participants in the event of an emergency or unforeseen delay in the mountains.

Fire precautions at Wasdale Head Inn
The Wasdale Head Inn has comprehensive fire precautions in place. All bedrooms have automatic fire sensors. The building has emergency lighting and illuminated fire exits, and labelled fire extinguishers are available throughout the accommodation.
